THE SOUNDS of urban music will ring out across Bradford City Park during a celebration of youth street culture on Saturday.

The high-energy Urban Festival is set to feature top British artists Danny Bond, Tom Zanetti, and Kane Towny, alongside Bradford's own TS7, and the London singer-songwriter, Little Nikki.

Visitors to the event, which is now in its third year, can enjoy a wide range of contemporary music genres including ska, dub, soul, RnB, and rock.

The programme also includes artists playing jazz, electronic, acoustic, garage, house, rap, and club music.

Away from the stage, budding musicians and DJs can take part in a music industry question and answer session fronted by some of the headline artists, and there will also be workshops in street dance, face-painting and DJ-ing.

Aki Nawaz, a member of hip-hop band, Fun-Da-Mental, will give a presentation on the political history of music, and radio DJ, Mycall Isrell, will host a selection of readings by local poets.

As was the case with last year's festival, revellers will have the opportunity to dance the day away in a silent disco where club music is simultaneously streamed live to several headsets.

The event is funded and managed by Bradford Council, in partnership with the specialist creative training provider All-Star Entertainment, which has been working with local school children to prepare performances of collaborative DJ and vocal pieces.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, the Council's portfolio holder for education, skills, and culture, said: "I'm pleased that we're able to run the successful Urban Festival again this year in City Park.

"We've been able to do this because of a great partnership with All-Star Entertainment, who have brought in external funding and additional resources to engage an even greater number of young people around the district in the run up to the event.

"As one of the youngest cities in Europe, the programme really hits the mark."

Hundreds of visitors flocked to last year's two-day Urban Festival, which was headlined by the British circus company Cirque Bijou performing Project 3Sixty, a spectacular show mixing circus acts with extreme sports, breakdance, and live music.

Other highlights included displays of BMX skills, freerunning and parkour, freestyle dance groups, and a range of colourful street art and theatre.

The Urban Festival runs from 12pm to 9pm on July 11, with all events taking place in City Park.
