FROM Jamaica to London, New Orleans to Bollywood, this year's Bradford Festival has an eclectic mix of music lined up next month.

The colourful, multicultural arts and music festival organised by Bradford Council, which last year attracted more than 150,000 people to City Park, will run from June 12 to 14.

Acts on the bill include strolling band, Mrs Wilson's Second Liners, who play 90s club classics with a New Orleans twist where people in the crowd will be encouraged to follow the parade in time to the music.

Also in the line up is Top Cats, one of the best ska bands in Europe, as well as Dhol and Brass, a high energy Indian brass and drum band playing classical, semi-classical, folk and contemporary up-beat tunes.

Leaders in ‘Live Bollywood' and alternative British Asian Music, The 515 Crew are also set to entertain festival crowds with their 'Brit Bollywood' sound and there will be a taster session for the Urban Festival which opens in City Park in July with house, garage, hip hop, indie and rock artists including Danny Bond, Sean Coy, Marc Landish, Sean Dean and Shaun Davies.

The festival is to feature chart-topping Asian fusion artist, Apache Indian, blues and rock powerhouse, Chantel McGregor and Indian folk legend, Raghu Dixit.

Latin jazz masters, Edwin Sanz and Alex Wilson will also take to the festival's Centenary Square stage and more than 500 local primary school children will join celebrated local singer songwriter Roger Davies to open the festival with songs of peace and friendship in The Big Sing for Peace.

Queensbury-born teen sensation, Oliver Pinder will also play in City Park along with popular Bradford pop band, ISSIMO and Bradford Festival Choral Society will collaborate with hundreds of local singers from a diverse range of choirs in a massed flash choir performance in One City, Many Voices.

Folk music fans will enjoy offerings from multi-award winning Cajun Roosters, and folk-rock six piece, Blackbeard's Tea Party while Bradford's Topic Folk Club will offer Bella Gaffney and acclaimed husband and wife duo, Plumhall.

The festival also includes Leeds disco-rock group, Happy Daggers, Bradford rock band, DMA, and hot new Asian duo, S.I.B and Kala Sangam will bring together six prominent UK percussionists for Jazz in the City.

The festival starts on Friday, June 12, at 12pm with a range of activities and performances, including street theatre, and ends on Sunday, June 14, which is Mela Day in City Park and Centenary Square.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, the Council's executive member for culture, said: "This year's Bradford Festival has a rich variety of music and talent on show in the city centre.

"Last year we had thousands enjoying the music and stalls, this year's programme promises to create a really vibrant, dynamic festival to pull in the crowds.”
