CLAYTON was sent back in time when an extra special Dickensian Market visited the village.

It was the tenth time the festive market has been held in the village and in its anniversary year there were more than 100 stalls, plus fairground rides and an entertainment stage.

Profits will be split between Clayton Village Hall, Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope and Lillie's Grace, which supports neonatal units in Yorkshire.

Organisers said Saturday's event was as popular as last year, when an estimated 6,000 people visited.

David Rhodes said: "It has been really popular. It has been busy all day, people haven't been scared off by the weather. It is cold, but not raining so lots have come out.

"The entertainment has been excellent, we've had a juggler and unicyclist and a ukulele group called the Bradford Ukes playing for the crowds."

As well as the charities that benefit from the market, a number of groups also had stalls at the event, including church groups, scouts, and charities such as Yorkshire Cat Rescue.

Simon McLaughlin, from Wibsey, went to the market with his family.

He said: "It is the first time we've been, it's been really good. We've been her a couple of hours. It's been a good day and we've all had fun. We'd definitely come again."

Also getting into the festive spirit were more than 300 people went to the annual Reindeer Stampede on Sunday, a five kilometre run around Roberts Park, to raise money for Epilepsy Action.
