AN EPIC show laden with pyrotechnic special effects is set to wow the crowds in Bradford City Park tomorrow night.

Spellbound, put on by the celebrated British outdoor performance specialists, Walk the Plank, is a show with eye-catching illuminated scenes and a dramatic musical soundtrack.

The story, inspired by the ancient Indian epic Ramanyana, is a thrilling tale of love, jealousy and betrayal told through shadow theatre – a modern take on shadow play using real life, local performers in place of puppetry.

Visitors will see the story follow the destiny of soon-to-be King and Queen, Rama and Sita, as a twist of fate places their future in peril.

Crowds are expected to flock to see the epic adventure through forests to a golden city, meet the powerful monkey god, encounter treacherous villains and watch a dramatic battle for freedom and love.

Rehearsals have been in full-swing at The Studio on Morley Street, Bradford, this week, with the performance the latest high-profile event to be staged in the award-winning park.

People can also enjoy the performances of two colourful street acts earlier in the evening, which has been organised by Bradford Council.

Spark! is a seven piece, magical live music troop which takes the audience on a colourful dreamlike journey with high impact drumming, dynamic choreography and beautiful lighting design.

The performance gradually builds in intensity, culminating in a climax of light, sound, smoke and movement.

Nutkhut, a British arts company known for its colourful flamboyant street theatre act, are set to delight and astonish audiences with Swyron, a ‘steampunk revolutionary' act complete with a full armoured robot who journeys on a ‘time-travelling, steam-billowing machine' and interacts with revellers.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, the executive member for employment, skills and culture at Bradford Council, said: "Our city centre events programme is an important element of our city centre regeneration, and we know it brings in additional visitors and spend to the businesses.

"These events promise to be spectacular, providing people with the opportunity to see performances never seen in Bradford before.”

Entry to all tomorrow night's events is free.
