Duo add dash of romance

The Russian Classical Ballet will be in Bradford this month, performing much-loved ballet Coppelia.

And bringing true love to the stage are husband and wife Nadezhda and Egor Schepachiov, who play the romantic leads in the ballet.

The show is brought to Bradford by Ellen Kent and Opera International which stages large-scale ballets and operas in smaller, accessible venues across the country. The production features young dance students from the Barbara Mann Dance Academy in Dudley Hill who will appear in the wedding scene in the final act.

Written by Delibes in 1866, Coppelia quickly became a classic ballet. The enchanting tale of an eccentric toymaker and his magical lifelike doll, Coppelia is told with a kaleidoscope of colours set against a sumptuous set.

Coppelia was written in 1866 and premiered at the Paris Opera in 1870. It was the first solo ballet score written by Leo Delibes and his music was judged by Tchaikovsky as being even better then his own celebrated score for Swan Lake.

Performed by a company of 120 - including a corps de ballet of more than 50 dancers, this is not-to-be-missed Russian classical ballet.

Coppelia is on at St George's Hall on Friday March 30 at 7.30pm. For tickets ring (01274) 432000.
