Howard's mocking earns wild applause

Russell Howard

St George’s Hall

Blonde Bristol funnyman Russell Howard strolled onto the stage to a loud, excited reception from a lively 1,400-strong Bradford crowd last night.

After sell-out tours, Russell, well-known as a panellist on BBC TV’s Mock The Week and whose seemingly boundless energy is Lee Evans-esque, had his audience in almost constant giggles as he launched into joke after joke.

There was no resisting a laugh at MPs, comparing claiming for a lemon on expenses to waking your nan dressed as a Nazi – it’s legal but you just shouldn’t do it.

So-called Michael Jackson devotees didn’t escape his quick-fire quips, after all why are all his hits flooding the music charts when surely Jacko worshippers already own his records?

He pulled off an uncanny Yorkshire accent as he toyed with the crowd, establishing a rapport with a particularly relentless individual.

The overall message of his gig seemed to be ‘live and let live’. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
