Dave Spikey
St George's Hall
If laughter really is the best medicine then Dave Spikey is a great healer.
I certainly felt a lot better after seeing his Best Medicine show, which he played to a packed audience.
Best known for appearing as Jerry St Clair alongside Peter Kay in Phoenix Nights and on panel quiz 8 Out of 10 Cats, the Lancashire comic is every bit as funny live as he is on TV.
The natural and likeable funny man kept the audience laughing for almost two straight hours in the one-night show.
With a very similar comedy style to fellow Boltonian Peter Kay, Dave finds the funny side in everyday situations including daytime TV, his school days and his fear of flying.
Having only given up his day job to pursue his comedy career seven years ago, some of the funniest parts of the show were his recollections of life running a hospital haematology department.
He finished the show by pointing out and poking fun at strange, nonsensical lyrics from famous songs with the audience joining in to name the tunes.
While many stand-up shows can stray very close to the bone, Dave's show is inoffensive but nonetheless hilarious and a must for all comedy fans.
If you missed his visit to Bradford, there is another chance to see Dave Spikey when he visits Halifax's Victoria Theatre on April 12.
