Forget tacky grottos and tired old festive chart-toppers. If you really want to feel Christmassy, get yourself along to Bradford's IMAX screen and climb aboard the Polar Express.

Screened in spectacular 3D, every inch of this feelgood and often haunting film is brought to life in captivating detail, from the rustle of the Christmas tree to the ground-shaking rumble of the magical steam train.

It's a fairly simple tale; a boy who doubts the existence of Santa Claus lies in bed on Christmas Eve, hoping to hear the sound of reindeer bells, and suddenly a steam train pulls up outside his window.

The conductor (Tom Hanks, in one of half a dozen roles) invites him on board and soon he's on his way to the North Pole - along with a bunch of other doubting' kids - to find out if Santa really does exist.

The CGI effect may not be everyone's cup of tea - the children's dead-eyed facial expressions are a bit eerie and Santa's elves are more world-weary than cute - but this is a magical film that will warm your heart this Christmas.

The state-of-the-art animation is gloriously three-dimensional; you find yourself grabbing at falling snowflakes, leaning to one side as you skid across ice, racing along a rollercoaster parcel shute at Santa's factory and clinging onto the Polar Express for dear life as she makes her perilous journey across mountain tracks and frozen rivers to the North Pole. I loved every minute of the adventure.
