“My abiding memory of our time in this house will be sitting in the field when we first bought it and thinking ‘wow look at all that space’, I felt I was on top of the world and could see forever.”

A truly charming smallholding of some 16.7 acres, Lower Key Styles Farm is perched on a hillside just outside of Wycoller Country Park, around four miles outside of Colne.

The farm was built in the early 1900’s as a result of the splitting of Higher Key Styles Farm to accommodate a newlywed daughter.

“We were looking for a property that could accommodate our menagerie of three horses, two dogs, one cat, numerous chickens and ducks.”

When they found out that this farm was on the market they saw it on the Thursday and bought it on the Monday.

“On our first viewing we were so taken with the outside space, the acreage, the direct access on to the Pennine Bridleway and the amount of beautiful footpaths over the moor with panoramic Pendle Hill making the perfect background view.

“The thought of all the walking we could do with the dogs as Haworth is only nine miles away and can be reached on the Bronte way, just a short walk from our boundary, was a great draw for us.”

The owners have lived here for the last nine years - the longest they have ever lived in any house: “I guess we just like moving!”

The house required a great deal of modernisation and the owners have carried out an awful lot of work. “However it does still require some modernisation and upgrading.”

Nestled into the hillside with amazing views to the front, the farm offers four bedrooms, breakfast kitchen with an excellent range of wood fronted cupboards, a central island unit with breakfast bar, complimentary wall and floor tiling and a range cooker fired by Calor Gas.

Also on the ground floor is a utility, dining room with stripped floorboards, magnificent double sided stone fireplace with multi fuel stove, which also serves the adjacent living room where feature picture windows and patio doors make the most of the breathtaking views.

An added bonus is the double garage which is currently used as a workshop and storage, plus a block of stables and a barn which, subject to relevant permissions, could be converted in to a holiday let or a home for a dependent relative.

“Our favourite room has to be our living room which we spend most of our time in. Large windows and patio doors shed lots of light into this room and give way to the ever changing moorland views outside, and the double sided multifuel stove makes it feel really cosy in winter months.

“The thing we will miss the most is the gorgeous views and peacefulness of the valley and our lovely neighbours.

“There is such a community around here even though we are all miles apart.

“I will also miss all the abundant wildlife such as the curlews, swallows, owls, and one of my favourite times of the year – lambing - there really is nothing quite as lovely as watching the little lambs playing and skipping over the moor and in our fields it highlights the turning of the seasons.

“My husband created a small paddock for my horses and I can see them from our living room window, I will really miss this when we move too.”

For anyone with equestrian, hobby farming or walking interests Lower Key Styles would make the perfect home, and nothing could beat those views.
