When Clive and June Wilson bought their home in East Morton in 2003, it wasn’t actually the house that was the wow factor.

“We saw an idyllic picture of a new housing estate showing the Leeds Liverpool canal - our house is the spot in the photo and it is idyllic.”

After moving in to their brand new home, they spent the next three years extending it into a five bedroom home

The original house was a three storey ‘dolls’ house. “We have built a two storey glazed wall to the new south facing master bedroom and lounge with real fire which overlooks the Leeds Liverpool canal and on towards the woods of St Ives and leads out on to a decked area over the Den at canal bank level.”

To the west of the house the Wilson’s have built a single storey dining room and kitchen extension with pitched roof which incorporates four sets of double patio doors leading out into a secluded patio area with pond.

The floor to ceiling window forms the south elevation of the dining room overlooking an infinity pond towards the Leeds Liverpool canal.

The hall has been enlarged with double doors to the stairs and a study has been formed off of this area.

As well as a there is a breakfast kitchen with range of fitted base and wall units, laminate work surfaces, one and a half bowl sink unit, built in double oven, four ring induction hob, concealed lighting, heating radiator, tiled floor. Integrated appliances include a dishwasher and washing machine. As well as a roof window there are double doors leading to the rear patio

Upstairs the bathroom was enlarged and completely tiled to take a power shower with mood lighting, music and steam and on the opposite side of the room is a corner Jacuzzi, large enough for two, which sits beneath mirrored walls.

“Joining the master bedroom and bathroom we built a large dressing room which houses wardrobes and a dressing table.

Remaining in the house while all the work was carried out was, as they say an interesting experience watching builders punch openings into the house while they tried to live a normal life.

“The house was a building site for six months but we have to say the team who did the work were fantastic with nothing being too much trouble when bacon butties were on offer!

“The end more than justified the dust, rubble and noise. A memorable moment came the day the Jacuzzi bath was delivered - it was pre-assembled and too big for the stairs so we had to remove the newly installed bedroom window and it was hoisted up to the bathroom on ropes.”

The bright airy extension completely re-orientate the house to face south.

“We have so many favourite rooms. Dining overlooking the canal, which is always full of ducks, swans and moorhens. Being down there with them in the den is interesting when uninvited feathered friends come to see what you have on the barbecue.

“In the winter there’s nothing like having a steamer, Jacuzzi and snuggling up with a book in front of a log fire.

“The garden has been crafted from the building site it was left in. Small terraces step down from the house leading you through secluded areas where you can soak up the outdoors or become part of the garden. Or just sit overlooking the canal and watch river life at its best

“We have loved living with the peace of the water and secluded garden which have been a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“We are going to miss our wonderful neighbors, local walks on your doorstep and some super pubs which will be hard to find as will entertaining in the den - the most used room in the summer! I think not seeing the swans who have nested in the garden for the last two years and the families of ducks will be hard to replace, but materially it has to be the Jacuzzi.
