Can you imagine waking up every morning to stunning views over a reservoir, just take a stroll down the garden, where you can watch the seasons change, and people enjoying themselves on the water.

Well Ian and Della Lomax have been lucky enough to do that for ten years.

“We spent nine month searching the internet and found it when it first went on,” says Della. “We were the first people to look at it. The following day we made an offer which was accepted.

“As you would expect, the wow factor for us was the view from the end of the garden from the patio. It is truly spectacular. That and its unique position near the reservoir made it special for us.”

Occupying a wonderful rural setting adjacent to Doe Park reservoir, the house was built in 1856 to accommodate the engineer who was overseeing the building of the reservoir. “When it was built it had its own spring, which was lost when the reservoir was put into operation. In compensation for the loss there are no water rates payable on the property.”

The house was in need of updating, and a new roof. “We knocked two rooms together to create a new kitchen and extended the dining rook to make it much larger.”

A new roof was put on the house and the roof on the garage was rebuilt which allowed Ian and Della to create a gym above the garage.

“We insulated the loft, fitted double glazing, put down new carpets and decorated throughout.

The house, with its neutral decor is a light and airy space, with many rooms being dual aspect.

MORE FROM PROPERTY OF THE WEEK

On the ground floor is an entrance and utility area, a breakfast kitchen with a wealth of units in solid oak, granite work tops, range cooker, built in electric hob and integrated fridge/freezer. The kitchen also benefits from ceiling beams and solid oak flooring.

Off the dining room, with its stone fireplace and ceiling beams, is a lobby area which at the moment is used as a library.

The sitting room is fitted with a multi fuel stove in an ornate wooden fireplace.

There is also a downstairs WC and access to the cellar.

On the first floor the master bedroom, which has an en suite shower room, has two attractive arched windows, fitted wardrobes with mirrored doors, feature fireplace with slate surround and ceiling beams.

There are two further bedrooms, one with a feature fireplace, and a house bathroom with a four piece suite which includes a shower cubicle and power shower, corner bath, pedestal wash basin and WC, together with tiled walls and a vinyl floor.

“My favourite room is the kitchen. From the window over the sink I can watch the cattle and sometimes the deer, and from the kitchen table I can watch a variety of birds feeding, such as goldfinch, woodpecker and siskin.

Outside there is parking for two to three cars, a detached double garage with stairs to a loft space with roof light which can be used as an office of gym.

Together with a well kept and manicured garden, Reservoir House also benefits from a field which extends to approximately one and a quarter acres of grazing, which will be of special interest to those with equestrian hobbies.

“In the garden we put a new shed and two patio areas. We also levelled the garden and created the vegetable plot just into the field, and maintained the dry stone walls in the field.”

“I never tire of the views which alter with the weather and I will miss the peacefulness sitting on the patio with a glass of wine.”
