It took Stephen and Michelle Drew two years to build their home, but the end result was everything they dreamed it would be.

Individually designed, this detached home, with four bedrooms, three/four bathrooms/shower rooms, plus potential for a granny flat, was built by Stephen for his own occupation and unlike many new builds it is not an estate but in a very pleasant cul-de-sac handy for local amenities.

Many people who would like a new build home, opt for one on a development, but not many build their own, because they are afraid of what could go wrong, but not Stephen, who has 40 years experience as a builder.

“We had the odd problem, but it all went smoothly on the whole, he says.

“We came across the land through a friend who knew we were looking for a project and we decided it was the ideal plot.

“It took us two years because we did it on a part time basis and we wanted to get it right.

“Over the years I’ve built a number of properties, which meant I had plenty of ideas as to the style of home we wanted.

“I was able to carry out most of the work, which saved us a lot of money that would have gone on labour.”

It is a very handsome property which offers extremely spacious, superbly presented accommodation, with magnificent long distance views towards Rawdon Billings.

With four bedrooms and three to four bath/shower rooms, it is a great place for family enjoyment.

In addition there is a lower ground floor area which was originally designed to be a granny flat, and could easily be bought back into use as such.

Further benefits include gas central heating, double glazing and an integral garage.

Briefly, there is a covered porch into a hallway with laminate floor.

Off the hallway is a cloakroom fitted with a contemporary white suite and tiled walls and floor, lounge with Portuguese limestone fireplace with living flame gas fire and a dining room – also with a laminate floor – which is open to the kitchen.

Here you will find a splendid range of base and wall units, built in double oven and hob with cooker hood, an integrated dishwasher and part tiled walls.

The kitchen is open plan to a breakfast area where French doors lead out to a veranda, with the whole kitchen and breakfast area having a laminate floor.

Another pair of French doors lead out to the veranda from the conservatory.

“I think this would have to be our favourite room because of the lovely views,” says Stephen.

On the lower ground floor is a lounge/sitting room with bar area with laminate flooring and a bathroom with a white suite, tiled walls and floor, and a shower over the bath. This is the area that was originally going to be a granny flat.

Off the splendid gallery style landing is a bedroom with an en-suite fully tiled bathroom with a contemporary white suite, three further bedrooms with one having built in robes and a contemporary bathroom with tiled walls and floor.

The house stands in mainly lawned gardens with a paved driveway and decked area, shared drive to the4 side and rear plus a covered patio area and lawn to the rear.

“This is the fifth house I have built and I am very proud of what we have achieved here. Our house is everything we dreamed it would be”

“We love the fact that we have easy access to Bradford and Leeds, and the peace and quiet in what is a very pleasant cul-de-sac.”

“As well as missing the house we are going to miss our neighbours, who are lovely people.”

“It must have been a success because I would go through it all again, health permitting.”
