“When a friend of ours built three houses on this site, we came to see them, and were so impressed by the quality of the build and its location, that we bought one,” say the owners of the intriguingly named Worlds End View, a four bedroom detached home in Thornton, Built on the site of a former corn mill, the house is across from a farm which is known as Worlds End, one of a number of names in the area that are biblical in origin – the Walls of Jericho and Little Egypt being other examples.

“The name has always given rise to comment from visitors.

“The wow factors for us were the magnificent views and the location in rural surroundings, but handy for Bradford, Halifax and Leeds and with Ilkley, Skipton and the Dales within easy reach.”

The family has lived here for 25 ‘happy’ years, and wouldn’t be leaving now if it wasn’t for the fact that they want to move nearer to family. “We would be very content to stay here.”

Worlds End View, which enjoys open views over the surrounding countryside is extremely well presented and tastefully decorated, with an entrance porch, hallway, cloakroom, three reception rooms, kitchen, ground floor bedroom with an en suite shower room/wet room, three further bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Over the years the family has extensively maintained and improved the property, including repointing the entire house, installing new windows to the front and back, installing a new kitchen and bathroom, and recently, a new condensing combi boiler.

“Our latest, and most ambitious improvement, was the building of an architect-designed extension at the back of the house. This consists of a large, high-ceilinged garden room, a double bedroom and an attached en suite which is wet room. A feature of this spacious development is the underfloor heating we had installed.

“There’s a nice flow to the rooms in this house. The lounge, with its feature fireplace, has an archway through to the dining room. This has doors to the sun room, which is open plan to the kitchen area.”

The kitchen is fitted with an attractive range of wall and base units, plumbing for an automatic washing machine integrated electric oven and gas hob with a filter hood, under stairs store and access to the integral garage.

Upstairs are the three bedrooms and family bathroom with a modern white suite, wood effect flooring and complementary tiling.

“It’s hard to say which is our favourite room, but I think it would have to be the new garden room which is warm in winter and cool in summer.

“We use it for morning coffee and appreciate its peacefulness and its views on to the garden.

“It is also a good place to watch the sun go down with a glass of wine. We entertain friends and family there and it is very child friendly, with plenty of rooms for their toys and games.

“The views are beautiful and on a clear day we can see across to Ilkley.”

This is a very flexible home which would appeal to a wide variety of people. The downstairs extension is particularly useful and could be used by a teenager, an elderly relative, or someone with mobility issues. It would also make a great guest suite.

The garden has been landscaped and a rockery built at the back.

“We planted a hedge to give us more privacy, and the whole garden is very easy to maintain.

“The best thing about living in the house is its beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We shall miss our friendly and helpful neighbours and the wide range of shops and local amenities – we still have our milk and papers delivered.

“Thornton village has a good range of shops and there is a local baker, good pubs, including one which has won awards for its food. There is a nearby cricket pitch, an excellent garden centre, and we are handy for St Ives park.”
