High Fold, Ghyll Wood Drive, Bingley, £500,000
Dacre, Son & Hartley, Bingley (01274) 560421

Owners Zig and Roz Zwierzewicz have loved their time at High Fold, and feel that luck played a part in their purchase.

“We came across the house on the internet after being narrowly pipped at the post in our attempts to buy two other houses in the fast-moving house market of 2005,” says Roz.

“We were not necessarily looking for a house in Bingley, but did want a spacious, imposing house with character and were struck by the handsome frontage of the property. When we realised that the location was so appealing with views over to Bingley moor from the front and rear gardens backing on to a wooded ghyll, we decided to go for it.

“It turned out to be third time lucky and we have spent nine happy years here, but our children have now left home and we need to downsize.”

When the family moved in, they rearranged the internal layout to suit them better, replacing the bathrooms and refreshing the decor. Then they turned their attention to the exterior, rebuilding the front garden walls and laying a new drive to give the house the smart frontage it deserved.

This was a meticulous project that resulted in a stylish home with luxury fixtures and fittings throughout, while still retaining the features that give this home its character, like the leaded windows and ornate cornicing.

Look around, and you’ll see that someone has an eye for interior decor. The colours flow from room to room with a warm yet neutral palette, highlighted in some areas with feature wallpaper.

“This has been a much-loved house and great for entertaining with plenty of spacious rooms to spread out in, but it is so true that people always seem to gather in the kitchen at parties! It is the kitchen diner that is at the heart of the house and we will definitely be looking for something similar in our next property.”

It’s easy to see why the generous-sized kitchen diner is so popular with its dual fuel Range Master cooker and gas hob, illuminated pantry, and cream-fronted units harmonising with the tiling on the walls and floor, which runs through the dining area as well.

Elsewhere on the ground floor is a lounge with a glazed leaded door into the conservatory, which has views over the garden, sitting room with solid wood flooring and double doors into the dining area of the kitchen.

There is also a lovely family room with French doors to the rear deck, laminate flooring, and double doors into a hobby room with useful storage cupboard, cloakroom and utility.

Upstairs, the master bedroom also has a solid wood floor, a dressing area with range of fitted wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath, wet shower area, tiled walls and floors.

The second bedroom has an en-suite shower room with a white suite, and there are three further bedrooms – one of which is currently used as a study – and a family bathroom with a white suite.

One of the charms of this home is the setting and its lovely views. At the rear is a split-level garden with fenced and walled boundaries, summer house and garden shed with a further garden to the side. “We had decking installed and designed it to connect the different levels and enjoy the whole space, especially for outdoor entertaining.”

The garden at the front, which has an impressed concrete driveway, has also been landscaped with paved areas, and lawn with mature trees and shrubs.

“With lovely walks and countryside nearby and speedy rail links from Bingley station to Bradford and Leeds city centres, this really is a best of both worlds location with excellent local amenities and a great sense of community.”
