SIR - It is of grave concern that unsubstantiated allegations are made that the Syrian regime had deployed chemical weapons, which had then become the pretext for the US, UK and France to launch missile attacks against Syria's military installations.

This reckless action had occurred before an independent inspection of the alleged chemical attack had taken place. The Syrian regime had little need to deploy chemical weapons when with Russian support it had been making significant territorial gains; it would not needlessly risk world condemnation.

It is suspected that if chemical weapons had been deployed then rogue terrorist organisations are responsible who are attempting to discredit the regime of President Assad.

Mr Corbyn was correct to urge caution before taking precipitous action and that this should be authorised by Parliament.

Normally it would be expected that we should support our government against a foreign power, but the level of mendacity is now so ingrained that little credence can be given to the official narrative.
