SIR - Further to your editorial comment, it is curious that the Chief Executive of Bradford Council is paid a higher income than the Prime Minister, notwithstanding that the private sector may offer even higher remuneration, ( T&A, April 11).

Rather at a time of increasing cuts being made to local services together with a council tax increase of six per cent , it reflects badly that the Chief Executive of Bradford is being paid in excess of £200k per annum and with additional pension and national insurance costs , the total amount would be £250k. In contrast, Leeds being a bigger and more successful city pays its chief executive £178k!

It is not a question that any savings from a chief executive's pay could be reallocated towards vital services, rather that a more sensitive and respectful tone is set for a much more modest income to be paid.

It needs to be seen that there is an equality of sacrifice being made in these austere times and not for some to enrich themselves at public expense!
