SIR - A wiser head than mine wrote last year that proceeding with Brexit was “Putin's dream policy”. The logic here is that Brexit will isolate Britain and weaken the EU.
It is 99.9per cent certain that Putin's Russia was responsible for the appalling nerve agent attack in Salisbury and it has been difficult for the UK in particular and the West in general to mount an appropriate effective response.
However, if the UK wanted to do something in response to the Salisbury outrage that would significantly pain Russia we could abandon Brexit and draw in closer to our neighbours on the continent who have been such staunch support in recent days.
Hence Brexit here is an opportunity - it is something we can make gains by abandoning.
