SIR - Ishtaq Ahmed of the Bradford Council of Mosques, commenting on the Government's plan to help people in Bradford speak English, stated that it was "insulting and patronising", and that "Bradford's problems are due to a lack of investment, not integration". (T&A, March 15).
Well, I'm afraid that if this is the general attitude of that community then no wonder there is a problem with integration.
Whatever he says, there is no doubt that far too many are either unable to speak English, or do not do so to an acceptable level despite having lived here for many years, if not all their lives.
You only have to hear the constant conversations in foreign languages to realise this, let alone wondering what language is spoken in the homes.
Until all of this is in English virtually all of the time then proper integration will simply not take place.
