SIR - I was interested to read about the career of soon-to-retire chief executive of Airedale NHS Trust. My wife and are retired nurses and we're pleased to see that Bridget Fletcher had a career as a nurse before moving into management. Both of us, and friends who are retired nurses feel that many of problems in the NHS are caused by the top-heavy management dominated by staff who had little or no experience of health care, and appear to be more concerned with 'bean-counting' and money management. Let's have more health care experienced managers. This winter's fiasco has shown what happens when non-health professionals run the service!
