SIR - The passage through Parliament of the Bill to trigger Brexit was surprisingly smooth, but Labour is right to outline tests which must be met, before their MPs will support any final Brexit deal.
These are: Ensure a strong and collaborative future relationship with the EU; Deliver ‘exactly the same benefits’ as we have as members of the single market and customs union; Ensure the fair management of migration in the interests of the economy and communities; Defend rights and protections and prevent a race to the bottom; Protect national security and our capacity to tackle cross-border crime; Deliver for all nations and regions of the UK.
Those ‘protections’ must include the EU environmental standards we currently enjoy, credited with improving the reputation of Britain, once known as “the dirty man of Europe” for its previous extremely poor record of unchecked pollution.
