SIR – It is clear Mr Cole is seeking to justify his refusal to accept the result of the EU referendum by claiming that the electorate were ignorant of the consequences of leaving (T&A, March 15).
Notwithstanding certain transitional arrangements, leaving the EU would only have meaning if the following were to occur.
Firstly, no further payments are to be made to Brussels once the UK leaves.
Secondly, the UK is not to be bound by existing or future EU laws.
Thirdly, the UK is not to be bound by the rulings of the European Court of Justice. Fourth, the UK is to be free to conclude its own trade agreements.
Fifth, the UK is to be able to restrict entry to all EU nationals.
The above is neither a hard or soft Brexit, merely the requirements for a successful departure from the EU.
