SIR – The question that Bob Watson poses ‘Is Council ‘Unions time’ fair to the tax payers?’ (T&A, March 22) has been answered on numerous occasions, but some people such as the Tax Payers Alliance are not interested in facts.
Workers for Bradford Council who are members of a Trade Union have a statutory right to be represented by a steward/health and safety representative in the workplace.
This advice comes from stewards who have had proper training and experience, they require time off for training and in the long run save the authority money.
What isn’t fair however and much more important are the rich individuals and large companies who avoid paying tax in this country. That needs investigating, not hard working people and their elected union representatives.
