I WRITE in response to Councillor Lynne Smith’s comment requesting more information on an incident where council stationery was used for an election campaign – Anger over leader row (Keighley News, October 16).

This investigation was concluded by the standards committee and it found a genuine mistake had been made, asked Councillor Glen Miller to apologise and advised Bradford Council to implement a policy to prevent such errors in the future. Case closed.

Once again, though, petty party politics is put before common decency. Coun Miller has recently lost his wife of 33 years; there is no justification to attack a man who’s grieving and no coincidence councillors of a different political party choose to reopen a closed case when the individual concerned is unable to respond.

Great they’ve deferred this until December, but they still felt the need to raise this issue now with no thought of how this may upset friends, family, colleagues and, most importantly, the bereaved councillor himself. This man was recently re-elected for the Worth Valley because he cares.

Bradford people would be better served if their councillors worked together, despite their political affiliations, rather than pointless point-scoring
