IT was an ordinary October evening last year when all hell broke loose on Hollybank Gardens.

The normally-quiet cul de sac erupted into violence as a long-running dispute between two groups of men came to a head.

Mohammed Waris, 22, of Northside Terrace, Lidget Green, drove to the street in a stolen car looking to settle a score with Ajaz Saddiq, 38, who lived there.

But Saddiq had been expecting them and two Audis rammed into Waris's stolen Volkswagen Polo.

Waris fired a shotgun at Saddiq's car, which also contained his 5-year-old son.

But before he could reload he was dragged out of the car and beaten for 20 minutes, witnesses describing up to five men taking turns to kick and stamp on the prone gunman as he lay in a pool of blood.

He was left so bloody and battered that one eyewitness threw up after looking at him, and spent a month in intensive care.

One resident told the T&A at the time: "It was like a scene from an action movie and there were blue flashing lights."

He said there were eight or nine police vehicles "going off in all directions."

"I then saw three men being arrested. They were taken off in three different vehicles," he added.

Another Hollybank Road resident added: "It was scary, I've never seen anything like it before. Why did it happen here?"

After a long and complex trial at Bradford Crown Court, five men were sentenced for their part in the day's violence.
