Exciting idea for air link
8:53am Friday 16th May 2008
The continuing expansion of regional airports like Leeds Bradford International need not necessarily be at odds with the desire of environmental groups to see a reduction in the number of flights nationally if it leads to a redistribution of passengers rather than an overall growth in numbers.

Man who must not be freed
8:22am Thursday 15th May 2008
There will surely be very few people who aren't upset and angry at the news that Peter Sutcliffe, the so-called Yorkshire Ripper, has launched a bid to be released from prison using human-rights legislation.

The theft of peace of mind
8:24am Wednesday 14th May 2008
Burglary is so commonplace nowadays that it is almost accepted as part of life in some areas. Yet to the victims of this crime it can have serious consequences - in the case of 85-year-old George Bridge the most serious of all, because the Second World War RAF veteran died after being manhandled during a 2am break-in at his Haworth home.

Role model well worth emulating

The banning of smoking in public places was an important step forward in the clean-air fight. Not only did it ensure that non-smokers don't have their lungs assaulted by other people's smoke, but it also provided smokers with fewer opportunities to indulge their habit - and consequently with an incentive to stop.

Developers must hold their nerve
1:19pm Monday 12th May 2008
To learn that current economic woes could have an impact on Bradford's regeneration, while unwelcome, is not surprising. After all, the credit crunch and rising costs are global phenomena and few will be spared their effects.

It’s time to soften the blow
8:15am Monday 12th May 2008
If an Englishman's home is his castle, then many of these fortresses are under financial siege at present. The latest figures for Bradford show that home repossession orders between January and March of this year rose by 27 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Keep your eyes open on railway
10:04am Friday 9th May 2008
Every year we carry stories of attacks on trains or of obstacles being placed on railway lines. It seems that every year, too, we report on campaigns designed to catch or deter those responsible. Yet still the criminal activity continues.

It’s wise to err on side of caution
8:28am Thursday 8th May 2008
The Home Secretary's decision to defy the Government's expert advisors and toughen up the cannabis laws is a U-turn that clearly has not been undertaken lightly. It was, after all, one of Jacqui Smith's Labour predecessors, David Blunkett, who in 2004 decided to downgrade cannabis to Class C so the police could concentrate their resources on offences involving "harder" drugs like cocaine and heroin.

Make park a place to be proud of
8:17am Wednesday 7th May 2008
Roberts Park at Saltaire is ideally situated to be a tremendous asset to the district, with the River Aire flowing sedately past to the south and the woodland of Shipley Glen as its backdrop. Its paved avenues, pavilions, shrubberies and flower beds, its cricket pitch and grassy play area must, at one time, have reflected the pride of the village on the other side of the river and the status of the mill's owner.

Vision that deserves to succeed
6:26am Monday 5th May 2008
Bradford and district has a proud history of manufacturing and there are those who are still market leaders in traditional businesses such as textiles, for example.

Hospitals must do all they can
4:20pm Monday 28th April 2008
The story of Razvana Ali and her baby daughter, Marwha, who both became infected with MRSA, raises serious concerns. The very mention of the so-called superbug will worry those who have loved ones in hospitals or who are patients themselves.

Half-mast excuse is half-baked
2:25pm Monday 28th April 2008
Health and safety' seems to be a catch-all excuse these days when decisions prove unpopular and difficult to explain.
