A NURSERY at a children’s centre has been described as “outstanding” in all areas after a recent visit by Ofsted, who praised its “inspirational” leadership.

Woodroyd Nursery and Children Centre in West Bowling was given the impressive rating shortly before Christmas, and it is an improvement on its last early years inspection in 2013, when the nursery was judged “good.”

There are currently 96 children on the rolls at the Woodroyd Road nursery, which is based at the children’s centre and employs 20 members of childcare staff.

The report gives the nursery the top mark in all four categories, effectiveness of the leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare and outcomes for children

It says: “The leadership team is inspirational. It is extremely passionate about improving the lives of children and families.

“The quality of teaching is excellent.

“The leadership team meticulously monitors the progress that children make and sets specific and sharply focused targets. These help children to make substantial progress and leads to outstanding achievement.

“This includes children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who receive additional funding.”

On the outcomes of the children who attend the nursery, the report says: “They quickly grow in confidence and learn how to communicate effectively with others. They develop excellent listening and attention skills.

“Children are incredibly well prepared for school, due to the strong foundations built in the setting.

“Children behave exceptionally well. They are inquisitive and show a real thirst for learning.”

One of the qualities recognised by the inspectors during their visit, which took place in November, were parents’ involvement in children’s learning.

The report adds: “The nursery uses parent feedback extremely well. For example, following a suggestion from parents, they arranged for a farmer to visit with real animals.”

A spokesman for the nursery told the Telegraph & Argus: “Woodroyd Nursery and Children’s Centre is pleased to have achieved the Ofsted Outstanding grade in all areas of assessment.

“The nursery strives to create life chances for children in the West Bowling area of Bradford supporting a belief in individual aspiration for children.

“If a child wants to be the next Britain in space let us support their early development and give them a belief that this is possible.

“Early education is the building block on which future education will be built and the importance of quality nursery education makes aspirations become a possibility.”

Recent figures show that half of the nursery schools in the Bradford district had been rated Outstanding at their most recent Ofsted inspection.
