A NATIONAL conference on how to get into the textile industry is being held in Bradford.

The two day Making It in Textiles event, which started yesterday at the Midland Hotel, is a collaboration between the Campaign for Wool, The Clothworkers’ Company, The Drapers’ Company and The Weaver’s Company.

It is for final year textile degree students, and is being attended by over 100 students.

Yesterday involved talks by top names within the industry, including Sheila-Mary Carruthers from Carruthers Associates, and Paul Johnson from W.T. Johnson and Sons.

Today attendees will visit two local fabric mills, Stanley Mills, which produces wool, cashmere and mohair apparel fabric, and Marton Mills in Pool In Wharfedale.

The event was set up to forge better links between educational institutes and employers to give them a better idea about how to get into the industry.
