BRADFORD College’s English Language Centre, which teaches English to international students, has been given the seal of approval by the British Council.

Offering full and part-time courses to foreign students aged over 18 who wish to learn English, the centre has retained its accreditation following an inspection earlier this year.

The inspectors' report highlighted that the centre was particularly strong in the areas of student care, premises and facilities, learning resources, academic staff profile, student administration and leisure opportunities.

The report described the campus as being “of a very high standard, providing an environment conducive to effective learning and teaching, as well as for relaxing and socialising”.

Students from Panama, Spain, France and China are among those to have improved their English skills at the centre in recent months.

The British Council accreditation is designed to be an assurance of quality to international students who are taking or are planning to take an English language course in the UK.

April's inspection included assessment of the standards of teaching, facilities, resources and welfare. Kirstin Sawyer, the Head of School said: “I am very proud of the team and the quality of the teaching is reflected in this very positive report.”

Katarzyna Kosel, head of the English Language Centre said: “I was particularly pleased to see the report recognise our efforts to offer ELC students the maximum linguistic benefit from studying in the UK. We want our learners to engage with other students and activities at the Faculty and in the last academic year we had some success stories in this area.”
