THE Vice Principal of a Pudsey school has left a pair of “big boots” to fill after retiring at the end of term.

David Newman, who, earlier in his career, taught classics across the country, has bid farewell to Fulneck School, which was founded in 1753.

Fulneck School Principal Deborah Newman said: “David is an exceptional teacher. Throughout his time here, his first and foremost priorities have been to his pupils, both educationally and pastorally.

“He has had a huge impact as Vice Principal, Head of Senior School and as a religious studies teacher. He could be relied upon to keep everyone positive and upbeat and he has been a huge inspiration to both students and staff alike.

“His students will miss him, undoubtedly. David has always been very giving of his time; he lead from the front and throws himself into everything he does, whether that be staff vs student competitions, or dressing up as a Ninja Turtle or Where’s Wally for School charity events.

“David has been a key member of our school community and we are all extremely grateful for what he has done over his wonderful career here at Fulneck School. We wish him well for the future.”
