THE University of Bradford is one of six Yorkshire universities to have fallen in the national rankings, according to figures released today.

The Complete University Guide shows that Bradford is the fourth highest rated university in Yorkshire and the Humber, and 58th nationally.

This is down five places from last year, when the university was ranked 53rd out of 129 institutions.

That placement came after the university had leaped up the national table by 30 places in three years.

The 2018 national table shows that Bradford has four degree subjects that are in the top 10 - the same as last year.

The Complete University Guide, which has published the tables since 2007, released their latest rankings today, which find Cambridge top, Oxford second and St Andrews third.

The table is based on ten measures including student satisfaction, research quality, research intensity, student: staff ratio, spending on student facilities and graduate prospects.

Of the 10 universities in Yorkshire and the Humber, six fell in the rankings, one remained the same and three climbed the table.

Leeds University is the top ranked in Yorkshire, and 14th nationally, up from 16th last year.

The other Yorkshire universities ranked above Bradford are York, which comes in 20th, the same as last year, and Sheffield which is 31st, down from 27th.

Last year Bradford had risen from 63 to 53, and just four years ago the university was ranked a lowly 83rd.

The biggest drop nationally was De Montford University in Leicester, which fell 28 places, and the biggest rise was West London University, which climbed 26 places.

Dr Bernard Kingston, Chairman of TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk, said: “The Government has said that applicants need access to robust, timely and objective information, based on criteria that are straightforward and easily understood.

“We believe that TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk meets these criteria and more.”

The Telegraph & Argus contacted the university for a comment, but had not received a response as of going to print.
