PUPILS at a Bradford school have been kitted out with school uniforms and footwear thanks to a generous donation.

Coventry-based PET-Xi, which provides educational interventions to help improve pupils results, has been working with Appleton Academy for the past two years to help improve pupil’s results in maths, science, history and geography.

When the company heard comments from schools inspector Ofsted that the academy needed to improve ‘consistency in uniform standards’ and that ‘the correct footwear is not worn by many pupils in the secondary phase’ they decided to step in and donate £1,000 to help provide uniforms to the most disadvantaged children.

Vice principal, secondary, Rachel Garlick said: "We have worked with PET-Xi for the last two years and the service they have provided for the school and students has always been excellent.

“Our school is in an area of significant deprivation and when PET-Xi heard about the poverty issues that some of our students face, they offered to support us in buying school uniform for some of our most needy. We couldn’t be more grateful for this £1,000 donation.”

PET-Xi’s joint managing director Fleur Sexton said: “We were delighted to help.

“When pupils all wear the same uniform it helps to create an identity for the school and engenders a sense of pride, which in turn helps children to do their best work.”
