A BINGLEY primary school has celebrated its anniversary with a spirited re-telling of a popular fairy tale.

Lady Lane Park Primary School in Bingley marked 29 years since it opened with a number of events, and pupils were full of beams for the celebrations.

As a treat to pupils, a pantomime was performed at the school to help mark the occasion.

The event had been funded by the school’s Friends group, and performed by M&M, a touring theatre group.

This year the magical tale of Jack and the Beanstalk was told in pantomime form, and pupils had the opportunity to dress up as some of the characters.

Pupils were also invited wear their own clothes for a non uniform day.

The anniversary of the school is treated as a big occasion - there was a pantomime of Sleeping Beauty held last year to mark the 28th anniversary.

Anniversary celebrations started last week with a balloon release by pupils after a countdown.

It was described as “the windiest start ever” to the anniversary event, and once the balloons were released the gathered children sang Happy Birthday.

Pupils Jumana Tariq and Charlie Savage won a competition to create a design for a school birthday cake, and three different cakes were created for the event.

The cakes had been prepared by Grandma Wild’s Bakery in Steeton, with the pupils designs re-created in icing.
