A BRADFORD tutor is in the running to be named Further Education Leader of the Year.

Hayley Lomas of Bradford College has been shortlisted for the title in the prestigious Times Educational Supplement FE Awards – the “Oscars” of further education.

Lomas, Head of Service Industries, Hospitality, Catering, Travel and Tourism at the college, is on a shortlist of eight in the leadership category.

The winners in all 14 categories will be announced in a ceremony at the Grosvenor House hotel in London’s Park Lane on February 24.

She is no stranger to the awards ceremony, having been part of the Bradford College team that attended the 2015 event to collect the trophy for Vocational Team of the Year.

Since that win, Lomas, who is coming up to 10 years’ service at Bradford College, has managed a merger of three large teams into one department, overseen a 21 per cent rise in the success rate in hair and beauty and the college has earned a gold standard for its catering and been named a centre of excellence in pastry and confectionary.

She is also an Ofsted inspector, magistrate, governor at Oasis Academy Lister Park School in Bradford and a governor at Bradford NHS Trust.

Andy Welsh, Chief Executive Officer of the Bradford College Group, said: “Everyone at the college is extremely proud that Hayley’s outstanding work has been acknowledged.

“Her inclusion on the shortlist is thoroughly deserved and provides excellent recognition on a national stage of the dedicated and highly professional staff we have at Bradford College delivering quality education and training.”
