A group of pupils from a Bradford school have visited the centre of UK democracy as part of a scheme to get more of the city's youngsters involved in politics.

The eight students from Carlton Bolling College got to meet politicians such as Pudsey MP Stuart Andrew and Bradford Councillor and Lords peer Baroness Margaret Eaton during a trip to London and the House of Commons earlier this month.

They were given a tour of house, and the House of Lords, during the visit.

It was organised by the Centre for Politics and Public Participation, a Bradford-based charitable organisation dedicated to increasing opportunities for young people who live in underprivileged areas.

The centre’s chief executive, Dayal Sharma MBE, said the idea was to introduce people to politics and the democratic system at an early age, and they have been organising the trips for several years.

One of the pupils who took part, Mahbub Rahman, said: "To visit the Houses of Parliament was an opportunity I couldn't let pass.

"Being able to walk through the halls of parliament and being able to sit in the same seats as the people that determine the future of our country was phenomenal.

"This trip allowed me to get an insight of politics and allowed me to understand what takes place behind the scenes in order for our society to function and be what it is today."
