HIGH-PROFILE campaigner Peter Tatchell visit Bradford College to mark Human Rights Day, which takes place tomorrow.

The political activist delivered a talk to more than 200 further and higher education students before holding a question and answer session.

Mr Tatchell is renowned for being at the forefront of campaigns for gay rights and fighting against apartheid, nuclear weapons, the death penalty, and dictatorships, famously twice attempting to perform a citizen’s arrest on Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe.

Among the topics discussed were the war in Syria and the failings of the United Nations, the rise of Russia and China on the international stage, proportional representation in the UK voting system, and alternatives to the austerity agenda.

Mr Tatchell said: "It has been great to visit Bradford College and speak on issues around human rights.

"My message was that human rights are universal. They are for everyone in every community and every country in the world.

"We need to recognise that some communities have been traditionally marginalised because of their race, gender, sexuality and faith.

"My foundation works to make sure there is a diverse, equal and inclusive society for everyone."
