PUPILS at a Bradford special school learned lessons about diversity as the school held its first LGBT Awareness Week.
Southfield School in Little Horton is a supporter of the Stonewell charity campaign ‘Education for All,’ which promotes tackling homophobic bullying and supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people.
The pupils took part in activities through the week to raise awareness of the campaign, including on Thursday when they dressed in bright colours and each received a pair of rainbow laces.
The colourful pupils then assembled in the playground in the shape of a rainbow to show their stance against homophobic bullying.
Jacqui Hill, Head of School, said: “As part of our equality, relationships & sexuality education and anti bullying policies we have a duty to ensure all of our students feel safe and respected in school and have an understanding of diversity in the wider world.
“This includes LGBT awareness and an awareness of derogatory language which is based on sexual orientation and gender.”
