A SCHOOL has been praised for its “rapid improvement” over the past two years.

Ofsted’s most recent report on Priestthorpe Primary School said: “The vision and drive of the headteacher, supported by energetic and enthusiastic staff, have created a positive place for pupils to learn.”

The Bingley school was judged to “require improvement” when it was last inspected in November 2014.

Of the latest inspection, head Christina Gunning said: “We are extremely delighted with the outcome of the inspection and feel that it reflects the journey which Priestthorpe has been on over the last two years.”

Inspectors said the school’s improvement plans were both ambitious and realistic.

The newly published report found that good provision in early years allows children to “get off to a flying start.”

On the behaviour of pupils, the report said: "They have a positive attitude to their learning and this is reflected in their good attendance and their focus during lessons.

"They are well mannered and courteous. They listen well to the adults and their peers, and show respect for the views of others."

Bradford Council’s Executive for Education, Employment and Skills Councillor Imran Khan said: “This report praises all aspects of the school’s work. It is a great tribute to the hard work of leaders, school staff and pupils at Priestthorpe Primary School. Its great to see Ofsted describe the school’s plans for future improvements as being both ambitious and realistic.”

Mrs Gunning added: "I express my sincere thanks to our fabulous staff for their continued dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to moving the school forward. This has been a real team effort.

"There is a strong sense of unity across school and together we remain ambitious for the continued success of Priestthorpe. I am immensely proud of the whole school community."
