MORE than 200 schoolchildren will take part in workshops to create a “remembrance rug” which will have a permanent place at Bradford’s Peace Museum.

Bradford Council’s Libraries and The Peace Museum are hosting the “Poppies of Remembrance” workshops for eight Key Stage 2 classes on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 14 and 15 at The Peace Museum, on Piece Hall Yard. They will look at the significance of the poppy and importance of remembrance.

Children can also have a go at rag-rugging with West Riding Ruggers, helping to make 30 poppies which will be stitched together to make a permanent wall-hanging to be added to the Peace Museum’s collection of peace banners and exhibits.

The session will conclude with the story ‘Where the Poppies Now Grow’ by Hilary Robinson and a minute’s silence.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Executive for Environment, Sport and Culture at Bradford Council, said: “This is a very effective and exciting way to get children engaged in learning about the first and second world wars. At the same time, these children are creating a piece of work for future generations to see.”
