ONE of Pakistan’s most successful film starts visited a Manningham primary school today to help inspire pupils.

Armeena Khan, whose latest film Janaan has become the highest grossing Pakistani film to hit UK cinemas since its release two weeks ago, was shown round Green Lane Primary School and officially opened the school’s new play room.

While there, she gave an inspiring assembly to pupils to let them know they can become whatever they set their minds to.

Her tour of the school included its more unusual features, including a climbing wall and cave, which Armeena got to explore.

Armeena is a film and TV actress as well as an international model, and one her tour both starstruck pupils and teachers took the chance to take photos with her.

She had been invited long before Janaan was released.

She told the Telegraph & Argus she wanted to let the girls, especially those from the Pakistani community, know that they could follow their own dreams, and didn’t have to conform to stereotypical roles.

The school’s new play room is an extension of the existing school building, and is for the youngest pupils. It provides a space to play and for the school to hold events.

Miss Khan said: “This school is very different from the schools I was used to growing up. We didn’t have caves or play houses. It is absolutely fantastic, I’m very proud the school let me come here.

“I am a strong supporter of education, especially for girls, and it is important that this message gets out in the community a lot of these girls come from.

“They can achieve anything they put their minds to.

“I hope to see some fantastic future superstars today, in all industries. You don’t have to be famous or on TV to be a star.

“My message to the children here would be to be themselves and aim for the universe, and even if they don’t make it they’ll still be somewhere in the stars.”

“Janaan has made it into the top 10 films in the UK and it has smashed a few records. I’m happy to have the support.”

She said she someday hoped to open a girls school in Pakistan.
