A CHEERLEADING squad at a Bradford primary school are celebrating after finishing top of the poms in a district-wide competition.

The team of 14 key stage 2 girls at St Joseph’s Primary School in Park Lane, Little Horton, took first place in the Bradford Primary Schools Pom Cheer Competition.

The annual event is held at Tong High School and attracts teams from schools from across the Bradford area.

The squad worked with the Pro-Dance Academy in Bradford to perfect their routine, which wowed the judges in the finals.

Tracey Philipson, who managed the St Joseph’s squad, said: “We are so proud of the girls.

“This is an remarkable achievement for the whole squad, and their achievement reflects the dedication that each team member has shown.”

Catherine Markham, head teacher at the school, said: “The squad showed great creativity, skill, and enthusiasm.

“They have all responded so well to the training and inspiration given by Mrs Philipson, and Beth Pointon, their cheer coach from Pro-Dance Academy Bradford.

“They were a joy to watch.”
