Four high-flying sixth-form students at Tong High School have won places on a flagship scheme enabling them to shadow undergraduates at Cambridge University.

Simran Aujla, 17, and 16-year-olds George Searle, Danielle Jackson and Gary Bourke, who are studying a combination of sciences, maths and psychology at A-level, will visit the prestigious university this month.

The Cambridge Shadowing Scheme, which aims give outstanding students from schools without a tradition of top university entry the chance to taste university life, will see them attend lectures and social events, play sport, receive information about the application process and meet admissions tutors.

The scheme is part of the school’s sixth-form guidance programme, developed by director of sixth form Bernie Leonard to ensure students realise their full potential both through academic qualifications and skills to help them flourish at university or in the world of work.

Headteacher Stephen Curran said: “I am incredibly proud of Simran, George, Gary and Danielle for getting onto the Cambridge Shadowing Scheme. It will be hugely beneficial to them.”
