These youngsters are set to take a leap into Saltaire’s Victorian heritage at the biggest and most ambitious parade in the Saltaire Festival’s history.

They will be among hundreds of children bringing colour and spectacle to the streets of the World Heritage Site.

This year children from Saltaire Primary, Wycliffe CofE and St Walburga’s will be taking over Roberts Park, which is back to its Victorian splendour after a £4.5m refurbishment.

Organiser Hattie Townsend said actors will re-enact the original opening of what was then the Saltaire Park by Sir Titus Salt and family in 1871.

The children, many dressed in period costume will then show their singing, dancing and gymnastic talents.

The 2010 Saltaire Festival runs from September 9 and 19. Full details of this year’s programme will go live on the festival website – saltaire festival.co.uk – in the coming weeks.
