Cross Hills and Skipton youngsters' musical lessons

Schoolchildren are putting on a show at the end of a higher education music project.

Run by Aimhigher and the North Yorkshire Foundsound Showcase, pupils from South Craven School, in Cross Hills, Keighley, and Aireville School, in Skipton, having been learning more about post-18 study in music and performance.

As part of the scheme, they have been working with the Backbeat Percussion Quartet at the National Centre for Early Music, in York. Workshops have involved working with everyday objects such as broomsticks and hand drums to create a new piece of music.

Their hardwork culminates with a one-off performance at the early music centre on Wednesday, February 3.

Aimhigher co-ordinator Richard Adams said: “Youngsters have gained a greater understanding of the possibilities of music and performance in higher education.”
