An out of school playgroup, based at South Craven School in Cross Hills, has received a boost in its bid to promote a national play day.
The Fun4Kids Out-of-School Club, for three to 13-year-olds, has received £100 from Glusburn and Cross Hills Parish Council to help it to host Playday, a national event aimed at getting children out to play at events across the UK.
The day – Wednesday, August 5 – celebrates children’s right to play.
Asghar Ali, co-ordinator of the Fun4Kids club, said: “We’re promoting outside play because these days a lot of children like to stay at home and play video games.” He said the day would be open to anyone and could include activities such as a climbing wall, bouncy castle and face painting.
‘‘The scale of the activities planned depended on how much funding the group received, but the parish council funds are a big help.’’ Councillor Roger Nicholson, chairman of Glusburn and Cross Hills Parish Council, said: “It’s a benefit to the whole community. It’s a good way to try to involve young people.”
