Ilkley Moor Lions Club needs help as membership dwindles

A popular fundraising event for good causes could be out for a duck unless new volunteers step forward to take it on.

The annual Ilkley Moor Lions Club duck race, run for more than a quarter of a century, is held on the River Wharfe on the same day as Ilkley Carnival on the first May Bank Holiday.

But dwindling membership of Ilkley Moor Lions Club means the club cannot run the duck race again. President and secretary Jim Shelton (pictured) said: “We’re down to nine members. Two or three are in their 70s and I’m 83.”

Contact Mr Shelton on (01943) 862352 if you can help with the event.

The trouble is that people these days, and particularly in a place like Ilkley, are too busy furthering their own ends to think of others. I bet there was less money given to Haiti by Ilkley residents than per head in Bradford or Dewsbury. Too busy in Ilkley thinking about a car valet or having the highlights done. Shame on you - support The Lions

Do you know, based on what I have seen of your postings, I would expect a banal comment such as that from the likes of you. I know other morons in the Bradford area who would completely agree with you though, which is why sadly Bradford has no future. Did you see that a muslim scout group has been formed? I guess you think that is bad news also. You need help sonny

You are much mistaken, that contributor will support the scout group and would certainly support Haiti (if it were a Muslim country).
The remarks about Ilkley residents are a massive generalisation, pity really because we usually get and indeed expect much better from you.
