Low crime rates in a village have fallen even further, but police say they will continue to be vigilant in the village.
There were just 33 crimes reported in Addingham in the last financial year, from April 2009 to the end of March 2010, said Inspector Sue Sanderson of Wharfedale and Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team.
And as there were 53 crimes in Addingham the previous year, this represents a 37 per cent drop in crime. Insp Sanderson said: “We’re extremely pleased about it, as there were 37 per cent less victims. Twenty less crimes means 20 less people became victims of a crime.
“Obviously, 33 is 33 too many, we’d like it to be zero.”
She said there was no regular pattern to the crime that does affect Addingham, although there has been a small rise in thefts from sheds and garages. She advised residents to make sure their sheds and garages were securely locked.
