Thornton openers Dave Holmes (54) and Paul Chapman (47) shared an opening stand of 114 but it was not enough for victory over Blackley in the Towergate Halifax League.

Thornton posted 238 for six but their opponents eased to a four-wicket win.

There was also a defeat in the Parish Cup the next day, despite an unbeaten 90 by Nikki Hutchinson.

Thornton's seconds recovered from 66 for eight to post 206 in a 32-run win against Sowerby St Peters.

This was thanks to an excellent ninth-wicket partnership of 101 between Andrew Hutchinson (121) and Mark Higgins (40).

Bob Ashley (89) and new boy Matt Drake (5-22) then helped secure a 224-run cup win over Old Crossleyans, who could not make an impact on Thornton's huge 321 for six total.

  • Jer Lane racked up an impressive 359 for four but Oxenhope hung on at 196 for six in reply.
  • Lane followed up by reaching the second round of the Parish Cup for the first time in four years, beating Booth by four wickets.

Lane's second team totalled 307 for eight in the league to see off Northowram HT by 84 runs, Tony Dawson top-scoring with 90.
