McCall in no rush to tie up Beckett
Luke Beckett and Stuart McCall had
Luke Beckett and Stuart McCall had "a good chat" about a move to Valley Parade

Stuart McCall does not anticipate a quick decision from goals target Luke Beckett.

McCall held a 45-minute interview with the prolific striker after City had an offer accepted by Huddersfield.

The talks went well but the Bantams boss has told fans that it is likely to be some time before any deal is struck.

McCall said: "We had a good chat and we've both got to go away and discuss things. Luke needs to talk with his agent and Huddersfield, and me with our joint-chairmen.

"It's not as if we have to dive into this and rush anything through. We talked about a lot of things but I don't see anything being decided in the immediate future; it's an on-going issue.

"Luke is going away for a week's holiday and them I'm away as well so we will see what transpires."

McCall was unimpressed that news of City's approach for the frontman was made public. Huddersfield put out a statement on their website on Wednesday.

"I'm a little bit disappointed it's come out. It puts everyone under pressure with people asking what's going on. We went through the right channels before speaking to him; we met the requirements with his club and it's been a good discussion."

Beckett, who was Huddersfield's top scorer last season with 12, has another year left on his Galpharm contract but has been told he can leave by new boss Stan Ternent.

But City have made their first signing of the summer after snapping up goalkeeper Jonathan McLaughlin from Harrogate Town.

The 20-year-old had been training with City during the second half of the season under the eye of keeper coach Nigel Martyn.

He played for Harrogate Railway in their televised FA Cup tie against Mansfield in November - and was even tipped by Railway boss Vinnie Brockie as a future Scotland stopper.

McCall believes McLaughlin has the potential to provide strong back-up for the first-choice keeper he will have to bring in over the summer.

He said: "We've got him on board as a number two to push the number one.

"Jon has really improved under Nigel Martyn and he's had the experience of playing regular football at a good standard in the Conference North.

"He just wants the chance to have a go. Jon's made good progress playing part-time and if he can make the same strides stepping up to full-time then he could be a good goalkeeper."

Winger Sean Taylforth has also agreed to sign his new deal, leaving City only waiting on Luke Medley to put pen to paper.

its not what is said but what is not!

he has been told by Town he can leaveso he can now tout himself to other clubs:City have had an offer accepted.

But it seems our value on his wages probably does not match his expectations and so he has gone away to think about it whilst still being paid by Town.

He is in no rush to sign for City obviously.

Is any signing at City EVER straight forward? It's takes us weeks to be let down by a player then we sign the left over dross instead, it's frustrating!!!

Even a club in the 4th tier of pro football can't hide from the media and the speedy medium of the t'internet, everyboby knows everthing etc etc, I'm sure other clubs are working in the same 'all your washing's hung out to dry' way. Fear not, we've started earlier than most, all will come good. CTID

Still not sure that LB's style of play is the right answer.

Stan Ternent is a very astute/shrewd manager. Luke Beckett is another 'Older'(31/32) player that Ternent does not rate, in his plans for Huddersfield.

I feel Stuart is right to walk away from any deal at this stage of the 'Close' Season. There should be better, younger players, he can target, and must have in mind to sign for City.

another lower league player who cannot think without an agent. will it also be "please mr. agent can i go to the toilet"? i despair.

Nobody has walked away from anything.

The deal might be sealed and delivered in 2 weeks time, or it may not, but nobody has walked away from negotiations just yet.

i think he will be a good signing and has proved himself in the division, the only thing that bothers me is the fact that he is being released, not a lot of clubs let their leading scorer go so the only thing to me is that he isnt ternants cup of tea,but i do believe he would be good for our promotion push next season and if he does sign i think the only way is up,just like yazoo.

Thank you for your opinion, and correction.

Can't buy or offer what you have not got for players. You need money to get players of any ability to sign, even the one's who are nearing the end of their career and need all they can. Come on lads get down there and buy them season tickets even management can't get teir holiday spending money until you hand over your cash. I understand there is a good chance of getting some money into City at Christmas, the Alhambra want the first team squad for the panto.

Seroiusly not sure that Beckett is the answer, with Bazza on the books. Someone sharper more pace to link up with Thorne would be my choice..

Jaffalaffa and Chris. Watch the space and you will see who is correct. I appreciate it is very hard to get the truth over to some people but perhaps we could start by you realising and accepting that this is a Telegraph and Argus site and not Bradford City Supporters Club. Free Speech like the tickets, get on down before they are all gone.

Quite right Sensible, you are entitled to air your opinions because we have free speech. However you must acknowledge that your opinion will be challenged by people who dont agree, such as me..

I haven't seen you make a post that has been either truthful, factual, or quite frankly even informative.

You seem to turn the wording of the article into a negative, using ambiguity and suggestive language to get your point across.

Just so you know, not every Chairman is intent on mismanaging this club. Even GR wanted to make city a success, it just got silly! Now I suggest that you produce facts to back up your claims or ADMIT you are just being devil's advocate in something you have little knowledge of.

Btw never seen Luke Beckett play so I cant judge. Good goal record at this level. Hudders Family fans say that his knees are buggered tho. Who to believe eh?

Bantam & Bull. It is afact that when you are loosing it one reverts to obscene language and shows one's real character. It's now McGod. don't you mean O'God. You are a bit like the City, all talk and no action. Can't you see that all the talk is a sales gimick aimed at a certain type of person.

    do you mean woody?

Yeah Sensible its aimed at supporters of Bradford City football club. Thats the people they are aiming their 'sales gimmicks' at.

People on this site will react angrily to your comments because it upsets them when someone like yourself puts them down. Perfectly natural of them to do that. Admittedly it doesn't make verbal abuse acceptable. Anyways, Sensible, please can you give me some facts or a well thought out explanation of why BCFC is being 'mismanaged' or is going down the drain.

Just realised why you have such a bag on... did you lose your shirt in the last City CVA?

    Unlucky!

i'm slightly concerned in that I think I might know who you are in real life? Last week I met with a friend who supports Leeds United but went to the MK Dons game with her uncle who goes to City, but (in her words) "actually supports Man United and thinks City are crap". What really unnerved me is when I asked her what she thought of the game and she was very negative saying, "Bradford lie to their fans about the real attendance, they always count season ticket holders even when they're not there"

    This can't be a coincidence!

Facts, figures or fly off. You can't produce the first two but you could certainly do us all a favour and stop bleating just because City either (1) Turned you down as a kid, (2) turned you down as a big kid, (3) The previous owners/administrator
s didn't honour your 25 year ticket ( I feel for the majority of those, but strangely if it applies not you.) (4) You are really just a sad act with not a lot of imagination nor research ability.
Over to you for a pointless response no doubt Senseless. No bad language, does that mean I'm on top in this tete a tete?

Just feel very sorry for you poor soles. Never lost anything with City, in fact have done very well in any dealings. I think you are on the wrong track JM although spend quite a lot of time in Skipton. A nice place but some of the folk are a bit strange, in fact quite easy to make a bob or two out of. Come on you lads lets get down to true facts and answer the question, Have you bought a £150 Adult Season Ticket. Not a political answer just a straight Yes or No. See Management have enlisted a new salesman in Weatherall, rest must have enough for a holiday.

A straight yes or no, any answer from you would be nice. Still no facts, still no figures, still no sense. And yes I have bought 2 adult and one junior, I love the club for taking away the headache of thinking up and shopping for birthday pressies. I also love them for allowing me to watch the cheapest league football last season, and a nicely priced season ahead again. If I do get a couple of free ones do you want to come and sit with me, you can then do your colouring in or summat whilst your mum has a wander round town, or even heads in the direction of Thornton, some nice little shops tucked away up there, if she can walk that far, can't remember the name of it but there is a little square with craft shops and one of items. But as I say, she probably won't make it that far up, probably only as far as Grattan, or the end of City Road. We can always go that way round so you can pick her up.

Bought mine @ Xmas as did my Dad who lives in Fleet, Hampshire, and my mate. Even if we don't hit the 9000 adult ticket target, it's still gonna be a great deal at £138/£150, I'm sure we will hit the mark, but what ever the outcome, it's a bargain.

Not sure where the comment on attendance figures started, but I have to admit I've wondered at the figure given in the past, and that it jus t automatically includes all season ticket holders, although I'm sure we're not alone there!!?!! CTID
