An investigation was continuing last night into an horrific motorway crash which left one Bradford man dead and another seriously injured.
The man who died was a front seat passenger in a Volkswagen Golf which was in an accident with a lorry.
The driver of the Golf suffered seriously injuries and had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax where he remained in a serious condition last night.
Four other Bradford men, who had been travelling in a white Toyota, were arrested at the scene of the accident, which occurred on the westbound carriageway of the M62 near junction 25 at Brighouse.
All four have been released on police bail pending further investigations.
A large section of the motorway had to be closed off after the accident which occurred at about 11.30pm on Thursday.
Watch manager Richard Hall of Odsal Fire and Rescue who attended the scene said: "When we arrived there was a lot of debris scattered across the motorway from the collision.
"We concentrated on extricating the driver of the Golf as the passenger had been thrown clear.
"We managed to get the driver out and pass him on to paramedics quite quickly considering the damage to the vehicle."
Traffic was reported to be tailed back for up to 13 miles at times and queues were reported to be four miles long as rush hour approached yesterday morning.
The road was finally re-opened at around 8.30am.
Police were not releasing the name of the dead man until relatives had been informed.
Witnesses to the incident or anyone who was driving on that stretch of motorway at the time and saw the vehicles beforehand should contact West Yorkshire Police's Motorway Unit on (01924) 292915.
