Crooks to hit the heights for charity

Lee Crooks is facing the biggest challenge of his life - quite literally.
The former City midfielder is gearing up to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for charity in June.
Crooks, who joined Guiseley this week after leaving Rochdale by mutual consent, plans to scale the 19,500ft peak, the highest in Africa, with pal Chris Grayston in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.
The 30-year-old is hoping to raise £6,500 and will be holding a bucket collection at Spotland on Tuesday when his two old clubs meet.
Crooks said: "I've been doing a lot of hill training like the Three Peaks but this is the first time I'll have tried to go up a mountain.
"I've been told by people who have done it before that you need to take it nice and steady to acclimatise to the altitude. That's one thing you can't prepare for.
"At least I'm not scared of heights. It's all the jabs I've got to have first which are worrying me more than the actual climb itself. I'm terrified of needles!"
Crooks decided on the charity venture after his father Terry suffered with prostate cancer.
He added: "My dad is now recovering - at least, they are keeping it under control. But until we started planning all this, I didn't realise how many people are affected by cancer."
Crooks, who almost joined Farsley Celtic on loan, made 44 appearances for Rochdale but had not started a game for three months.
Donations for the climb can be made at justgiving.com/leeandchris.
